Police Officers Share Stories From Las Vegas Shooting
I wrote and produced a KPBS Evening News PKG on officers from San Diego and Chula Vista who survived a mass shooting in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017. They shared their stories of providing aid to shooting victims while scrambling to save themselves and their loved ones.
This story won first place for News Writing in the 2018 San Diego Press Club Awards.
A Police Shooting: The Death of Alfred Olango on KPBS
For KPBS Evening Edition, I produced “A Police Shooting: The Death of Alfred Olango” on September 27, 2017. Our team of reporters, producers, and video journalists shared the stories of family members, community activists, elected leaders, and officers. This news special also looked at how law enforcement members are developing skills and strategies for dealing with people who suffer a mental breakdown. In addition to television features, KPBS reporters produced stories for our radio and online platforms.
This show won first place for Public Affairs Report in the 2018 San Diego Press Club Awards.
California Counts: U.S. Senate Debate on KPBS
As part of the California Counts collaborative with public media stations, I produced a live U.S. Senate debate with California Attorney General Kamala Harris, Rep. Loretta Sanchez, Duf Sundheim, Tom Del Beccaro and Ron Unz on May 10, 2016.
This debate won first place for news specials in the 2017 Society of Professional Journalists Awards, San Diego Chapter.
Final Flight of the Space Shuttle Endeavour on KPIX 5 News
I produced a news special on the Space Shuttle Endeavour trip to the California Science Center in Los Angeles on Sept. 21, 2012. We had live crews tracking the space shuttle’s flight over San Francisco Bay Area landmarks, from Moffett Airfield to the Golden Gate Bridge.
